Nothing happens without a cause! Well, thats what most of us tend to believe (explcitely or inside our hearts). OK, let me cite a simple experience of mine. I was baking a pizza in my oven, and was a bit lost in my thoughts. And while taking the pizza out, I burnt my palm! Simple reason, because I was not mindful, was not attentive, I got this burn. But can we put it the other way? Because I had to get this burn, I was not attentive...! Which way the cause-n-effect should go?
Because there was a chick, there comes this egg..........or because this egg is here, there was a chick?
SOunds funny and non-sense............but I am quite puzzled by this thread and direction of this thread.......thread of causality! The rule of Karma. Because I swore at my friend, now I miss the train......or because I had to miss the train, I swore at my friend?
Because I am confused, I am writting this or because I had to write this, I am confused?

Which is cause and which is effect..
all this depends on the respective persons, environment, and situation. For one person the cause may b effect and viceversa. And see the situation. if that is a neutral one..like- which comes first chick or egg, which doesnt cause much of a thought to us.u just become little puzzled..after all how to know?u werent there when this universe started.. but incase it was some bad situation.., u tend to analyze the whole thing from all sides.Because u were inattentive.,u burnt ur palm. Because u were busy with ur friend ..u missed ur train. And may be because u are confused .., u are writing this.
But why do stress so much on these things. what has happened has happened.,why to cry over the spilt milk.?Why shouldnot we just do our duties and stop thinking about the past. because when we do that, the present time in our hands soon becomes a thing of past.
Thought to put my two cents here...
Well I believe the goal of the article was to stress on CAUSALITY...and the examples the article throws might not be very accurate. Though 'Chicken or Egg', 'Catch 22' are few popular examples for Causality. It's one of the great philosophical concept (which I love the most) and of course is the centerpeice of ontology too. I would defer to Deepanjali on the lights thrown on thought process which the article throws...I strongly believe the writer is absolutely right on the confusion/dillemma he brings to the topic while deciding the cause-effect analysis. Thats what causality is!!! It's not what to do, or what perception one should have, rather article stabs on the beauty of CAUSALITY...and I did like the topic, may be some strong and popular examples (and little longer desription) could have added more meat to this. Anyway hats off for the subject, quite nice, picky one!!!
"but incase it was some bad situation.., u tend to analyze the whole thing from all sides" it was a nice line Deepanjali. It stresses on what we do, we analyse. But does truth depend on what we analyse? Is there any truth at all? Ah! philosophical doubts...!
Yes, Nirmalya, you are right. I have not done justice to the topic by just a small paragraph. I really wanted to wander bit more. But was scared, in case I frighten any reader (if at all anyone comes!). Now that you have encouraged me, I would soon put more words on the same topic. It indeed is one of my favorite topics. Because it can lead to so many conclusions.......!
Eternal confusion!
