Simplicity

How do we define simplicity? Staying with whats bare need! And who will delineate greed from need? What is need for me can be termed as greed for some Mr.X/Y/Z. So how does one qualify for "simple living n high thinking"? By the way, why the heck should I try for "simple living and high thinking"? Whats so wrong about "high living and simple thinking"? Does simplicity brings happiness? I doubt it strongly. Lets take an example of the life style of a village farmer, whose life style we can brand as simple with a good agreement. But does that farmer know about the simplicity in his life? NO. Most of the cases, if the life is simple, then the man might not know that its simple. And if one knows that his life is simple; or in other words, he/she could afford a more luxorious life but still takes a less luxorious life..............then .......well i would say he/she is running behind some mirage. There is nothing great about simplicity. The notion it slef is relative and "one who knows that his life is simple loses the merit of it"!!

I am afraid, I don't agree with you fully. Simple living doesn't mean living with bare minimum stuff.

To explain simplicity - when I was a kid, in the exam I used to do the simple sums first then the difficult ones. What is that simple sum? Simple ones are where I didn't have to think hard ......

same thing applies to life too....if you are thinking a lot about anything it is no more simple....

that way if a farmer thinks about his life, his survival, his future, his earnings all the time...his life is no more simple .

where as if a millionarie doesn't put any effort thinking about his life, i would say he leads a simple life.....

hope I made my point clear..

Isn't putting little thought just plain laziness?
Why shld one be xpected to put equally little amnt of thght to the sums u encounter frm childhood to teenage?
thinking more or less doesnot make life simple or hard - i wld say wht u r thinking abt is more pertinent
also , as humans with a certain amnt of advanced brain activity, we have to think a certain bit - may be by not thinking/disregarding the most obvious questions we complicate life further

hey, why u wanna define simplicity. it is something to be realized, to be felt. if at all u define, the defn. wd become a complicated one and defeat its own purpose. yes, it may be practised & that wd be simpler i am afraid. people cultivating typical western style of thinking may believe that if anything can not be defined, that is altogether absured, because they feel that every question has an answer and fail to realize the vice versa situation.in this context, i strongly challange ur view that if some one knows he is leading a simple life he no more can take pride in it. it is like opining that knowing truth nullifies the effect of being truthful. on the other hand, i feel one should always weigh his position vis-a-vis his environment, take pride and feel shame whereever his sense of simplicity(if any) allows him the same.
